Physically, I would score myself as an "7". I take points off for being overweight, not able to workout 4 to 5 days as I would like, and not eating a consistently nutritious diet. I can however walk and run farther and faster than I did when my kids were young. I'm also taking vitamin supplements to add to my malnutrition. Mentally, I would score myself a "9". Remember, us guys always have our stuff together under pressure. LOL! I'm proactive in my life and that insures that I'm not surprised with distractions or detours. I take a point off for trying to do too much. As a patient advocate, I'll climb the highest mountain for my patient. Spiritual I would score myself a "8". I do believe in God but not the structure of church. As a wee lad back in the early days as a Protestant child attending Sunday school, I found the church was great but the people who ran the church, did not live by the Golden Rule Monday through Saturday, and only put their Sunday Bests on Sunday for church. I do believe in the Golden Rule regardless of the situation or the day of the week. I know that God understands that when I work Sundays, God understands. I believe that I'm the best patient advocate nurse and treat my patients as if they were my mother, father, brother or sister.
The Crime of the Century relaxation video was great in verbal instructions and cueing in order to relax. But I found the colors annoying. I found myself closing my eyes to better my relaxation. The presentation was very similar to self hypnosis tapes that I have listened to in the past. I'm glad that we are investigating the boddy's ability to heal itself by minimizing the unpositive influences we encounter daily.
Respectfully, Steve Tardy

Hello Stephen,
ReplyDeleteI do understand your role being a patient advocate. That is definitely saying that you are on earth to alleviate unnecessary suffering. We are chosen to be powerful, positive, and highly effective for others, however, we must take a moment and define what we really have to do to be able to give to others. Giving requires that we also take time to give to ourselves. Start thinking that you have time to exercise and mentally picture the size you want to be and it should propel you into your exercise and eating right routine. Since you do too much...Take some of that time and give it to you! You are too beautiful of a person to give it all away. Find your calm mind, be still and relax. Taking vitamins is a plus for an active person like you. I do take vitamins as I need to. I used to do too much also until I had an accident working out at the gym. I did not know how bad the injury was until I woke up the next morning with excruciating pain and I could not walk. I had to get off of the bed and crawl to the bathroom. I could not get on the toilet, but I pulled my way up and then crawled to the car and drove to the ER. They lookead at me like I was crazy. They even labeled me as a frea accident. I saw several doctors between October of 2001 to 2004. In 2004 I suffered a heat stroke and my vision was off the chain. I could not read, I was seeing double. I felt at times that Iwas dying. The doctors did not know what was wrong with me. They labeled me as a freak accident.I paid so much money to find the answer. One day I heard my attorney say to another person:"Do you know that she has brain injury?" I knew deep within because of the memory lost, and other things associated with traumatic brain injury. I can walk now, I started college again, and I am still doing my role as a mother. I am careful becausae any unnecessary stress will cause my symptoms to surface. They suface to remind me that I am doing to much and I must calm down. I have learned that I am important first and everything is after. It was hard to learn. I cannot give to others what I do not have. If we are overweight due to lack of exercise or bad eating habits, then we cannot encourage others to do right in that area.
I do understand and agree with your view of what we called the church back then. We are the curch. The building is not the church. I do believe in God also and saw people not practicing what they preach. I live for me an to do what I feel is right by the God I believe in. God understands no matter what day of the week you work.I too believe that you are the best patient advocate nurse because you treat your patients as if they were your mother, father, brother or sister. Our lives daily is our example of love when we work like that.
I encourage you to set your exercise and eating habit goals and stick to them. You are a very important person to your patients, your family, and to us who are striving for integral health.
May you be blessed in your body, mind, and spirit.
Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your post, you are a very caring individual with a lot of wonderful qualities to offer the world. I work with patients as a rehabilation technician for an orthopedic hospital and I can relate to your altruistic nature in treating the patients like they are your personal family members. I am a firm believer in treating others how I would like to be treated; so you are definitely the best patient advocate nurse possible for providing appropriate care to your patients. It takes empathy, patience, and kindness to provide a medical service to a community and it sounds like your patients are in really good hands in your care. To help with your daily diet, there are several diet programs that are online that you can use to create meal plans and improve your eating habits such as http://www.mealsmatter.org/MealPlanning/MealPlanner/index.aspx
If you plan ahead, you can prepare the meals and freeze them for consumption on another day. You can chop up fruits and add mixed nuts in ziplock bags to carry them to your job as well. Please remember that your physical well being is just as important as your patients. So, I encourage you to remember to take care of yourself and exercise regularly if it's nothing more than walking for 30 minutes on three days out of the week. Your physical health is just as important as your patients that are assigned to your care, so please take care of yourself.I wish you well in all of your endeavors and I hope it's not much of a struggle for any of us to reach the goal of human flourishing at some point in our lives. I too, had an issue with the relaxation exercise. Some of the colors was a bit difficult to imagine. I found irony and hilarity in the name "Crime of the Century," because it didn't fit the description of the activity at all. Hopefully, the next one won't be so difficult to follow along with.
Hello Stephen,
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great moment in life. Happy Holidays!
I wanted to remind you of a formula that I use moment by moment.I make sure that at every moment I see myself as a whole in mind, body, and spirit. I make the connection when I exercise, because if I think it, it works together. It keeps me positive, powerful, and highly effective. Let me know what you think.....
How is you exercise and diet? Remember you are an important individual.....Blessings and lots of loving kindness and health and wellness to you.....
